The police spokesperson noted that the yet-to-be-identified gunmen numbering about five stormed the house of the NASIEC Secretary located at Bakin Rijiya Village, along Lafia-Shendam Road around 11.45pm on Tuesday night and abducted him to an unknown destination.

The statement read, “On 25/8/2021 at about 0145hrs, a complaint was lodged at C Division, Lafia that, on 24/8/2021 at about 2345hrs, unknown gunmen numbering about five stormed the residence of the NASIEC Secretary located at Bakin Rijiya Village and kidnapped him.”

Nansel further noted that on receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi, immediately led a detachment of Police personnel from the Command’s Anti Kidnapping unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, and other tactical units to the scene where the victim is suspected to have been held captive by his abductors.

The police spokesperson added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department has also been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter in order to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators.

He, therefore, appealed to members of the public to assist the police with useful information that will help to arrest the assailants and rescue the victim.

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission had announced that the commission will conduct Local Government Area elections across the 13 LGAs of the state on October 6, 2021, to fill in vacant positions for Chairmen and Councilors.
