Despite the ongoing crisis in Plateau state with many states evacuating their residents, gunmen have again struck in the state capital, Jos.

In the fresh attack which happened in Ahwol Ward, Naraguta community, in Jos North Local Government Area, no fewer than 36 persons were killed and several others reported injured.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the community with sophisticated weapons around 10 pm on Tuesday night and killed the victims while several others who sustained injuries during the attack have been rushed to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos, the state capital.

Confirming the attack, the Paramount ruler of the Anaguta ethnic nationality in the state, Ujah Johnson Jauro told The Punch, “Yes, it’s true. I have been informed that some gunmen attacked my people last night in Naraguta community with many casualties. But we are still investigating to know what really happened.”

However, in another report by Daily Trust, the new attack happened at Yelwan Zangam community of the Jos North LGA.

The report quoting a resident identified as Yakubu Bagudu, claimed more than 30 people were killed, adding that security personnel had been deployed in the area.

This is coming lesser than 24 hours after GWG reported that eight persons, including a policeman and a vigilante, were killed in Mangu Local Government Area of the State.

The policeman, Abdulrahaman Isah, was identified as the Commander, IGP’s Intelligence Response Team based in Mangu while the name of the vigilante was given as Hassan Mohammed.

It was gathered that the victims were killed on Monday evening at Kwoi community of the council area.

The spokesman of the Plateau Police Command, Ubah Ogaba, confirmed the Mangu killings in a statement in Jos on Tuesday

Ogaba said, “On 23/08/2021 at about 1400hrs, the command received credible information about the activity of a notorious syndicate of gunrunners at Kwoi Village, in Mangu LGA of the State. On receipt of the information, the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) based in Mangu, Police Operatives attached to Mangu Division, STF and local vigilante were mobilized and swiftly raced to the area.

“On sighting the team, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel. But because of the tactical operational capability and superior gunfire of the Operatives, six of the hoodlums were neutralized while others fled with various degrees of bullets wounds.

“Exhibits recovered from them include Three AK 47 Rifles with Breach Nos 868, 106076 and 123487.

“Regrettably, one Insp. Abdulrahaman Isah who is the Commander IGP’s Intelligence Response Team based in Mangu and one Hassan Mohammed a local vigilante gallantly paid the supreme price.”
