The position of Chief Ayirimi Emami in the new dispensaiton under the new Olu of Warri was on Tuesday under controversy following claims that his title as Ologbotsere of Warri cannot be removed from him or a new holder appointed.

A stalwart of Ayirimi who had claimed that the Ologbotsere title is permanent and cannot be removed from him was rebuffed by a Warri chief. The chief said that the validation process was an age long tradition under which every new Olu reconstitutes his cabinet (chiefs).

Ā GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Comrade Alex Eyengho, the spokesman of the Ologbotsere Descendants of Warri Kingdom had in an interview with Daily Independent claimed that Ayirimi Emami would remain the Ologbotsere till death.

Ayirimi who had been suspended as Ologbotsere of Warri before the coronation of Ogiame Atuwatse IIIĀ of Warri kingdom was absent at the validation of his chieftaincy title last Saturday.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Eyengho also described the Iyatsere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Johnson Amatserunleghe and others who said the Ayiri has been suspended as Ologbotsere as jokers who should be ignored.

He said ā€œAs of today, the 6th of September 2012, Chief Ayirimi Emami is the de facto and the Dejure Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom and it remains so. He is functioning effectively in that capacity despite the fact that he is in court.

However, that does not mean at any point in time, those who really want genuine peace and reconciliation cannot bring anybody to the table to talkā€.

ā€œThe Olu of Warri cannot make anybody Ologbotsere without recourse to the Ologbotsere family. He will only make a request to the family that he wants to give out Ologbotsere titleā€.

ā€œThe family will now do internal screening on their own and then present a candidate. That was what was done and that was how Chief Ayiri was presented to then Olu of Warri who now ratified and adopted the decision by the family. Once an Ologbotsere title is given to somebody, it is till deathā€.

ā€œThe person only stops being Ologbotsere if he dies. It is not a tenured title. It is till death. Nobody can remove or suspend him because it is a family titleā€.

However, countering him a senior Warri chief  said on Tuesday:

ā€œSimple question; does the decision of a king bind his successor in law? I simply don’t think so.ā€

ā€œFurthermore, every Chief is an appointee while no king is an appointee. The appointee of the Chief is the King. The King is presumed to have all the powers of his predecessor and no less.Ā  The expression we use for the making of a King is coronation while the emergence of a Chief is conferment.ā€
