Hundreds of bank customers were on Tuesday frustrated after officials of the Imo State Government shut several bank offices on Bank Road in Owerri, the state capital.

There were insinuations that the Imo State Government sealed the branches of banks after they closed shop on Monday in deference to the stay-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

There were also some other insinuations that the bank branches were sealed on the claim that they violated building plans approvals.

Sources revealed that as early as 9.00 am the bank branches were already sealed leaving several business persons and individuals who wanted to make transactions frustrated. It was gathered that the state government officials sealed the banks as early as 7.00 a.m.

Some of the banks that were sealed by the state government were Ecobank Access, Polaris, First Bank, and United Bank for Africa.

The officials of the Owerri Capital Development Authority sealed the banks were deployed in sealing the bank branches.

It was learnt that the banks that were sealed by the Imo Government were mostly those which did not open in deference to the stay-at-home order authorized by IPOB in respect of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Some state government officials were, however, implying that the banks were sealed because of building plan approvals though why only that did not open on Monday were affected had not been explained.
GreenWhiteGreeen GWG reports that several efforts have been made by Southeast governments to break the back of the stay at home order by IPOB, but mostly to no avail.

The stay-at-home order followed the forceful repartriation of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government and his subsequent arraignment. IPOB had initially directed the stay at home every Monday while he remains in custody but that was subsequently relaxed, but many offices still remain fearful of opening on Mondays because of possible violence from hoodlums.
