Senator’s Fate In Mystery As Kidnappers Keep Mum

Three days after he was taken from a popular drinking joint in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, mystery continues to shroud the fate of Senator Nelson Effiong as his kidnappers have kept mum

As at Wednesday night the kidnappers were yet to make a demand or even make contact with the family of the senator reliable family sources disclosed.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that the senator was kidnapped from a popular drinking joint owned by him along Oron Road in Uyo by three armed men.

Senator Effiong who represented Akwa Ibom South in the last Senate became the first senator to defect from the mainstream Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC during his time in the Senate.

A family source disclosed on Wednesday that the kidnappers had not made any contact with the family of the senator on the development leading to a mystery as to the reason of the kidnap.

Meanwhile, the APC in Akwa Ibom State has called on security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the act.

The APC in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Nkereuwem Enyongekere and made available to newsmen said the party is worried and distressed over the kidnap incident.

The statement reads in part “Our party has been very worried and distressed to learn of the kidnap of Sen. Nelson Effiong, one of our strong Chieftains who is also the immediate past Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State.

“Today, the Caretaker Committee Chairman Dr. Ita Udosen has on behalf of the party urged the DSS, the Nigerian Police Force and other security outfits in the State to urgently swing into action to bring him back home safe while ensuring that those behind this dastardly act are made to face full wrath of the law.

“The party will do everything in its power to secure Senator Effiong’s release while enjoining all our party faithful to continue to pray for his safe return to his family and our APC fold soonest”, the party said amid fears over the fate of the senator with the kidnappers keeping mum.

“The Party, therefore, advises Sen. Effiong’s family and the general public to liberally provide useful information to the security agencies to aid his rescue from the kidnappers’ den.
