Erue Stepping Down As Delta APC Rezones Chairman
By GWG Political Editor
Prophet Jones Erue is set to step down as chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State following the rezoning of the office out of his Delta South Senatorial Zone.
A notice issued by Erue on the zoning of the various offices in the State Executive Committee, SEC obtained by GreenWhiteGreen GWG observed that the office of state chairman has been zoned to Delta Central along with State Organising Secretary, publicity secretary, financial secretary, and State Woman Leader.
Delta South where Erue comes from is to produce Secretary, Welfare Secretary, Auditor, and Youth Leader.
Delta North according to the notice will produce Deputy State Chairman, Legal Adviser, Treasurer, and Special Leader (Physically Challenged).
The zoning decisions according to the notice was arrived at a meeting of the party leadership presided over by Erue on Friday, September 17, 2021.
Sources in the state chapter of the party, however, say that the decision to zone the office of the chairman to Delta Central was met with the approval of Erue who it was disclosed, had wanted to step down after his nomination to the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
That nomination has been put on hold following the intrigues over the forensic auditing of the commission.
Erue, who came over from the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP where he served as a national officer, became the first chairman of the APC in Delta State and had served as party chairman despite the changing flux in the informal political leadership from Otega Emerhor, Great Ogboru and now to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that on account of his loyalty to Omo-Agege that it was alleged that those against Omo-Agege/Erue leadership sponsored the internal divisions that led to the party’s woeful performance in the Isoko South State constituency by-election where Erue comes from.
The aim of those against him it was alleged, was partly to embarrass him out of the top party leadership position whether he was interested in seeking a second term or not.
