Three Reasons Why Nigerian Youths Sag Trousers

Sagging is a manner of wearing trousers especially jeans that sag so that the top of the trousers or jeans are significantly below the waist, sometimes revealing much of the underwear. Sagging is predominantly a male fashion and the style was mostly popularized by skaters and hip-hop artistes. This fashion is also referred to as ‘low-riding’.

  Here are  three reasons why Nigerian youths sag

  To be trendy

Many Nigeria youths sag to make themselves look trendy or formidable. There are some theories that the style was originated in prison and the fact that some gangs dress up in that  way. For some youths dressing in this manner makes them look very tough. It gives the individual a feeling of being in line with the craze of the moment.

Some of the youths sag because basically they want to and this becomes a way of defining their individuality.

“No matter what others may think, the reason they sag becomes a way of expressing themselves. These individuals do it not to follow any trend they just do it because they feel like it.

They feel it is right

Most Nigerian youths sag because they feel it is right to sag and the reason is that their parents most times do not correct them to adjust their trousers. In this jet age, most young adults and some adults still need the control of their parents and so they feel that if their parents didn’t correct them at home that means it is a right thing to sag. 

To belong

Other Nigeria youth sag so as not to look outdated. They have this belief that once they sag they are in vogue with the latest fashion trend and so they try to adapt this style for them to be what is in the fashion lane.

 Sagging pants have emerged as one of the most infamous fashion trends, an intriguing situation among the youths of the country and the society should frown against the wearing of trousers below the waistline.
