Edo PDP Withdraws Campaign Council list

An Ibrahim is set to emerge as the next national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP following the permutations that have put three former governors all bearing Ibrahim as the top contenders.

The three are former Governors Ibrahim Dankwambo, Gombe; Ibrahim Idris, Kogi; and Ibrahim Shema, Katsina.

The permutations on the three followed the failure of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue working along with some other PDP governors from the North and South to successfully push through the aspiration of former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu for the top party position that has been zoned to the North.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG sources disclosed that following the PDP National Executive Committee, NEC meeting that the Northern leaders had convened for a meeting at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge, Abuja where Ayu’s name was advanced.

However, the PDP Northern leaders were said to have rebuffed the idea on the claim that there were others who had shown interest in the position. It was as such decided that each of the three zones in the North should produce a candidate following which the leaders would vote for one to go forward as a consensus candidate to the convention.

The decision on who the leaders will adopt is to be taken next Wednesday at a meeting in Abuja a source confided in  GreenWhiteGreen GWG.

Among those who had shown interest from the three zones are Dankwambo and Suleiman Nazif, the incumbent deputy national chairman (north) from the Northeast; Shema and Ahmed Makarfi (from the Northwest).

From the Northcentral are Idris, Ayu, Prof. Jerry Gana and Senator David Mark.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that because of the possibility of a Southern Christian candidate emerging as presidential candidate that party leaders are making every effort to mollify the Northern and Muslim tendency in the party by ensuring the emergence of a Muslim as the next national chairman.

Besides the three Ibrahims, (Idris, Shema and Dankwambo), Makarfi and Nazif who are also aspiring may have hurdles to cross.

Makarfi according to party sources has “issues” to settle with some party leaders over his alleged lukewarmness during the 2019 General Election.

Nazif is the only other one left to battle with the three Ibrahims, but his historical association with Atiku Abubakar is a factor some say may count against him.

It leaves the battle ready for the three Ibrahims, viz; Ibrahim Dankwambo, (Northeast) Ibrahim Shema (Northwest) and Ibrahim Idris (Northcentral.)

Indeed party sources were at the weekend saying that the battle for the national chairmanship position is settling down to a battle of the three Ibrahims.
