Saudi Takeover Makes Newcastle New Competition, Claims Tuchel

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel claims the takeover of Newcastle makes them a “new competitor for titles”.

The purchase of Newcastle from Mike Ashley by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) last week means the club is now the richest in world football.

The Magpies currently sit 19th in the Premier League, but with the backing of PIF, they are expected to challenge for the biggest prizes in football in the not too distant future.

Many clubs have voiced their concerns over the sale of the club, but Tuchel says Chelsea “trust the Premier League”, which he admits has just got “tougher”.

Tuchel said at his press conference: “In general yes and I think it’s normal people have concerns. We trust the Premier League, they have accepted and they are the authorities.

“They have allowed it and Newcastle have new owners. The new owners seem to be promising for a famous club in England and it seems we have a new competitor for titles and places in the top ranking.

“We play in the toughest league and it always seems to get tougher.”
