Red-Hot Awoniyi Fires Union Berlin To 2-0 Win Over Wolfsburg

Taiwo Awoniyi scored his sixth goal of the season to help Union Berlin to their fourth win in a row in the 2-0 win over Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

The goal sees Awoniyi surpass his last season’s tally of five leage goals, while Union climb to fifth place on the table.

It was a drab first half, as chances were scarce, with neither goalkeeper making a save in the first 45 minutes, but that soon changed in the second half.

The hosts went in front within five minutes of the restart. Genki Haraguchi touched Max Kruse’s pass into the path of in-form Awoniyi who placed his effort beyond Casteels in the Wolfsburg goal to send Union Berlin 1-0 up.

Wolfsburg striker Weghorst sent a free header straight at Luthe in Union goal as the Wolves doubled their efforts to find an equaliser, but it was Union who scored next.

Sheraldo Becker doubled the hosts’ lead and put the match to bed, nodding in fellow substitute Andreas Voglsammer’s cross.

Awoniyi and Union Berlin would be looking to build on their impressive form as they travel to Holland where they face-off against Feyenoord in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
