10 Bandits Killed, Camp Burnt As Security Men Raid Kaduna Forest
Security forces have killed 10 bandits in Kwanan Bataru on the outskirts of Fatika in Giwa local government area of Kaduna State and moved on to burn down a camp which the bandits used in keeping hostages.
Some bandits also sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire with security operatives.
Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed these in a statement on Monday.
According to him, One Alhaji Abubakar Usman, who is likely to have been kidnapped in a neighbouring state and was being held by bandits in the area, was rescued by the troops, and is being debriefed at the moment.
Aruwan said the bandits who managed to escape left behind several motorcycles, one revolver, mobile phones, torchlights and some charms.
One of the sheds used by the bandits to hold hostages was burnt. He said Governor Nasir El-Rufai commended the security forces for taking out the notorious bandits and wishes the troops and personnel more success in the ongoing operations across the state.
Besides the development that the security forces killed 10 bandits and burnt their camp, elsewhere in Kaduna, about 96,000 children under five will benefit from the soon to be inaugurated Macronutrients Powder (MNP) Programme by the Federal Ministry of Health and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kaduna State.
Mrs Chinwe Ezeife, Nutrition Specialist, UNICEF Kaduna, made this known during a courtesy visit to key government agencies in Kaduna on Monday to introduce the programme and secure government commitments to scale up the programme.
The advocacy team, led by UNICEF officials visited the Ministry of Health, State Primary Health Care Development Board (SPHCDB), and Planning and Budget Commission (PBC).
Ezeife said that the programme would be piloted in three Local Government Areas namely, Zaria, Igabi, and Zangon Kataf as effective preventive intervention against malnutrition.
She said that the MNP was enriched with 15 vitamins and minerals, adding that health workers, parents and caregivers would be trained on how to use the home-based food fortification powder for children from six to 59 months.
