Four Things You Need To Know About November 6 Anambra Election

The election to choose the next governor of Anambra State comes up November 6 with the insecurity in the state shadowing the conduct of the election. There are four facts you need to know about the Anambra governorship election.

Governor Obiano not contesting

Governor Willie Obiano , the incumbent governor is not seeking re-election because he is completing his second term and not qualified  according to constitutional provision to stand for another term . Obiano was elected as governor in 2013 and was re-elected for a second term in 2017.

Electronics transmission of result

The independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has promised to make the Anambra governorship election a model in that the commission would flag off the electronic transmission of results with the election in the state. It means the result would be offloaded from the 5,720 Polling Units in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

18 governorship candidate

About 18 candidates representing different political parties according to the list released by INEC would contest the Anambra election. They are;

Mr. Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)  Sen. Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress  (APC); Sen Ifeanyi Uba, Young Progressives Party (YPP) and Dr Obiora Okonkwo, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Others include Obiora Agbasimalo, Labour Party; Dr Godwin Maduka, Accord; Bennet Etiaba, (AA); Chidozie Nwankwo, ( AAC); Akachukwu Nwankpo (ADC); Afam Ume-Ezeoke (ADP); Geoffrey Onyejegbu (APM); Philip Echetebu (APP), Okeke Chika Jerry (BOOT Party).

Also contesting are Leonard Ohajinkpo, NNPP, Afam Ezenwafor, NRM; Nnamdi Nwawuo for PRP and Obinna Uzoh for SDP.

Election to hold despite IPOB threat

Despite the insecurity challenge posed by the activities of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB INEC has vowed to go ahead with the election as scheduled.

Recall that the entire south-east has been engrossed with security challenge in the past few months which has led to death of several people including security personnel. Some INEC offices were razed down by the mythical unknown gunmen
