PDP Convention Holds As Secondus Loses Appeal

The National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is set to commence on Saturday following the dismissal of an appeal lodged by the suspended national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus against the highest gathering of the opposition party.

An Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, dismissed the suit filed by the erstwhile national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus seeking to constrain the party from holding the convention.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Secondus, in an appeal marked CA/PH/ 339, had asked the court to restrain PDP from conducting its national convention slated for October 30 and 31, 2021 on the ground among others that his term as national chairman was unceremoniously abridged with the decision to hold the convention without him presiding.

Prince Secondus who was elected in 2017 lost his foothold in the party following a feud with his state governor, Nyesom Wike who reportedly took position against a second term for Secondus as national chairman.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that in a bid to sustain his relevance, Secondus had through his Lawyer, Tayo Oyetubo, urged the the court to suspend the convention and grant him the right to preside over the exercise as national chairman.

His prayers were, however, rejected on Friday after all three justices of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Haruna Tsammani unanimously affirmed the ruling of the lower court without any dissenting voice.
