From Annihilation To Jubilation Manchester United Thrash Tottenham 3-0

Manchester United returned from last week’s 0-5 home annihilation in the hands of Liverpool to a 3-0 jubilation at the expense of Tottenham who suffered their worst home defeat of the season in the hands of the wounded visitors.

Ronaldo opened the scoring for the visitors in the 39th minute in a game that had until then been almost evenly balanced between the two struggling teams.

Ronaldo opener came after he superbly smashed Bruno Fernandes’ diagonal ball into the area past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and into the bottom corner from a tight angle just before half-time to give Manchester United the first goal of the match..

The Portuguese striker turned provider with a through ball to set up Edinson Cavani to clip home United’s second before Fernandes also split the Spurs defence open for substitute Marcus Rashford to add a late third.

The victory is the first for Manchester United in five games and despite last week’s humiliation in the hands of Liverpool it gives something of a hope for the team’s troubled manager.

The result, however, compounds the case for Tottenham manager, Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham were again muted in attack, failing to meaningfully trouble David de Gea, with Son Heung-min volleying their clearest chance over from close range when the game was still goalless.

They slipped to a third defeat without scoring in four games in all competitions to drop to eighth in the table, while United leapfrogged their hosts into fifth but still eight points behind leaders Chelsea.
