Breaking: Massive Gas Leakage In Lagos, NEMA Asks People To Leave Ikeja

Massive gas leakage Ikeja Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has issued an alert on a massive gas leakage in the Ikeja area of Lagos and asked businesses in the affected areas to close shop immediately.

Officials of the agency in Lagos have cautioned business owners, especially in Computer Village to steer off their businesses while the issue is being addressed by emergency responders who are arriving to handle the situation.

Okada riders have also been called upon to clear off the area as officials say that motorcycles are especially inflammable and could further jeopardise a delicate situation.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the gas leakage was traced to a leak of the Nigerian Gas Company, NGC pipe supplying the Ikeja Industrial Estate where several industrial companies are located. Many of them depend on gas supplied by the NGC for their operations.

The areas said to be particularly affected by NEMA officials include Allen Avenue, Anifowose and Oba Akran areas of Ikeja and people are being called upon to steer clear of the area.

The public is also advised to pass information to loved ones or business owners in the area to steer clear.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the situation in Ikeja comes upon the call to duty by the emergency responders following the collapse 28 kilometers away of a 21-storey building in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

19 persons have been confirmed dead while 9 persons have so far been rescued alive.
