Tricycle Operators Protest Killing Of Member By Police

There is currently pandemonium in Abule-Egba axis of Lagos state as many commercial tricycle operators are currently protesting the alleged killing of one of them by a policeman attached to Meran Police Station.

The tricycle operators took to the street on Thursday morning, blocking all entry and exit routes of Meran, a community in Abule-Egba, to express their dissatisfaction over the recent killings and extortion by the police.

There are two stories to the death of their colleague.

While some said a policeman allegedly stabbed a tricycle operator with a dagger while others said he was shot at by the policeman who left him to die by the side of the road.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday morning along Command road, Meran, Abule-Egba.

Tensions are high as the tricycle operators are reportedly planning to avenge by attacking the police station.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the protest via a WhatsApp message, said the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had deployed policemen to the area to quell the situation.

It was also learnt that no damage had been made as at the time of filling this report.
