Dr Tony Nwoye has celebrated the 117th posthumous birthday anniversary of Nigeria’s first indigenous Governor-General of Nigeria and President, Dr Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe (Owelle of Onitsha) and made a public call for the birthday to be declared a public holiday.

The Anambra-born politician and medical doctor in a statement on the occasion of Zik’s birthday on 16th November 2021, described the late Nigerian leader and Pan African as a man whose efforts, dedication, and commitment to the Nigerian state greatly shaped the destiny of the nation.

He further went on to describe the Owelle of Onitsha as a man who fought gallantly for the unity and oneness of the nation with an unbiased mind as he called on the present crop of leaders to imbibe the culture and tradition of sustaining the legacies of our heroes past and make sure that the nation remains as he advocates for equity, justice and fairness in the leadership as without that will amount to disunity and chaos in the country.

Dr Tony Nwoye registered his displeasure over the federal government’s inability to declare November the 16th a national day taking into cognizance what Nnamdi Azikiwe represents in the Nigerian state. He commended the Anambra state government for deeming it fit to declare November 16th a public holiday in honor of the great son of the state who made Nigeria proud when he lived.

Dr. Nwoye’s call for the birthday of Azikiwe considered an icon to be declared a public holiday is bound to receive reactions in the immediate future.

Dr Tony Nwoye who represented the good people of Anambra East/West in the 8th Assembly further thanked the federal government for the Ziks Mausoleum at Inosi Onira and urged the government to do more for the late Nationalist who made sure that the Nigerian state was sustained.
