Paris Saint-Germain and French Ligue 1 have started reaping the benefits of star player Lionel Messi’s arrival in France.

Although Messi is yet to stamp his authority on the pitch, the mercurial Argentine’s arrival is already having its impact on Ligue’s 1’s viewership numbers.

A case study was the October 24th clash between PSG and Marseille which recorded an increase of over 76 percent in North Africa and the Middle East viewerships.

The French media outlet, L’Equipe in a report stated that Qatar-based broadcaster, Bein Sports have racked up a staggering 50 international broadcasting deals for Ligue 1, with it now being shown in over 200 countries.

Bein is reported to pay 75 million euros per season to show Ligue 1 overseas, with new contracts being signed for the 2021-24 cycle for broadcast in Belgium, India, Vietnam among others.

Sweden and Norway have also jumped on the Messi bandwagon, as have Spain and even Twitch.
