Aguero Set To Retire Following Cardiac Arrhythmia Diagnosis

Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero will announce his retirement from football next week following his cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis.

Aguero had to be substituted in the first half of Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alaves last month with chest pains. After a spell in hospital, it was announced that he had been diagnosed with the heart condition, and the striker was told to rest up for three months.

Reports from Catalonia stated that a return to action even after this time off was in doubt, though these were dismissed as premature.

Following that speculation, Aguero tweeted that he wanted to wait and see how he would feel following 90 days of rest. But reliable Spanish journalist Gerard Romero confirmed on Saturday that Aguero will confirm that he is going to retire at a press conference next week.

Aguero has made just five appearances for the Blaugrana following his summer switch from Manchester City, with his only goal coming in the last minute of Barça’s 2-1 defeat at home to Real Madrid in El Clasico.

This sudden decision will rock Barcelona to the core in a season which has already seen so much upheaval. Ronald Koeman was sacked last month after overseeing a terrible start to the season, with Xavi taking charge of his first game as head coach on Saturday against Espanyol.

The departure of Lionel Messi hit the club hard and they are now in the midst of an injury crisis, particularly in the forward department.
