Liverpool Face Arsenal In Tricky Anfield Test

Published

on

Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Saturday as the Premier League resumes after a much-maligned two-week international break.

The fixture poses a tricky test for Liverpool who haven’t won in their last two league games, losing to West Ham in a 3-2 defeat before the break. Arsenal on the other hand have banished memories of a torrid opening August, where they lost their opening three fixtures to embark on a 10-game unbeaten run, winning their last three league games on a bounce.

Liverpool face late fitness tests for key players, with manager Klopp revealing his dislike of the international break during the pre-match conference, with Andy Robertson Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho returning with knocks. Arsenal also have injury concerns of theirs, with reports stating that star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and midfielder Thomas Partey are possible doubts for the trip to Anfield.

Despite the Reds recent stumbles, they still rank first in goals scored per game (2.8), boasting the league’s top scorer (10) and assist (7) king, Mohammed Salah in their ranks. Although the Egyptian hasn’t scored in his last two games, his form against Arsenal is sure to boost Liverpool’s chances against the Gunners.

Liverpool find themselves in 4th place with 22 points, four points off top spot, and just two ahead of Arsenal who are in 5th place with 20 points.

Both teams come into this fixture highly motivated to secure a win. Victory for Liverpool will see them return to winning ways and increase the gap with 5th-placed rivals, while a defeat will definitely raise concerns about their recent performances. An Arsenal win will see them climb into the Champions League spot for the first time this season.
