More Misery For Solskjaer As Watford Thrash Man United 4-1

Under-fire Manchester United boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer faces more pressure following the 4-1 humiliation of the Red Devils by strugglers Watford on Saturday.

The defeat means Man United have won just once in their last five outings in all competitions.

Despite controlling possession in the first half, Man United could have fallen to an early goal, with Watford awarded a penalty which De Gea save from Ismaila Sarr. Watford finally got their goal in the 28th minute, via a Josh King strike courtesy of an Emmanuel Dennis assist.

Sarr recovered from his penalty miss to double Watford’s lead in the 44th minute, piling more pressure on an unstable Man United side going into half-time.

Solskjaer rang the changes at half-time, bringing on Donny Van de Beek and Anthony Martial for Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford respectively. It took five minutes for Van de Beek to have an impact, heading in a pass from Cristiano Ronaldo in the 50th minute to cut the deficit in half.

Hopes of a Man United comeback were dealt a blow when under-fire defender Harry Maguire was sent off for a second yellow in the 69th minute, after bringing down former Red Devil Tom Cleverley with a clumsy challenge.

Despite their numeric disadvantage, Ronaldo almost drew United level but hit his shot off target to the side-netting. The Portuguese came close again in the 76th minute but his header went just over the crossbar. Man United continued to pile the pressure but it was Watford who scored next.

Substitute Joao Pedro finally dashed any hopes of a comeback with his 92nd-minute strike, courtesy of another Emmanuel Dennis assist, with the Nigerian striker terrorising the Red Devils backline.

Dennis finally turned goalscorer putting the result beyond doubt in the 96th minute courtesy of a long ball from Foster in goal, with the striker drilling a low shot beyond De Gea in goal.

The result sees Watford climb to 16th, while Man United are in seventh-place after 12 games.
