Former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode was on Tuesday arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in Lagos on the allegation of forgery.

Fani-Kayode according to sources was being held for allegedly forging the medical certificates with which he exempted himself from appearing for his ongoing trial in recent sittings.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the trial judge had in exasperation slapped a N200,000 fine on the former minister with a threat to declare him wanted should he abstain from presenting himself on the next adjourned date. He had been scheduled to appear for trial in Lagos on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Fani-Kayode alongside others are facing trial over criminal conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering to the tune of N4.9 billion.

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed Fani-Kayode’s arrest by operatives to The Eagle Online on Tuesday evening.

“I think something like that happened,” he said and declined to comment further on why the EFCC arrested Fani-Kayode.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the EFCC investigation of forgery against Fani-Kayode follows the observations that he had consistently submitted a medical reports from General Hospital, Kubwa and Federal Staff Hospital, Abuja all of which were supposedly signed by on Dr. S. A. Tobechukwu.

However, the EFCC had written to the hospital which denied the existence of any Dr. Tobechukwu in its employ and denied the ownership of the letter headed paper used in issuing the medical certificates.

It was gathered that Fani-Kayode threw the blame for the mix-up on his personal doctor who allegedly brought the medical reports to him in his house when he came to treat him.

Fani-Kayode was allegedly arrested by the EFCC operatives in Abuja and brought down to Lagos.

The former minister was still with the EFCC as at press time on Tuesday evening.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG could not confirm if he would make his appearance from the EFCC custody on Wednesday.
