Coconut water has been traditionally used to treat dehydration and some people serve it during ceremonies. But beyond the cure for dehydration, coconut water has other benefits to human health. Here are six of its benefits.  

Good drink for athletes

Many people prefer coconut water as a better natural drink.  Study has shown that one can drink enough of coconut water without causing nausea or stomach upset. Like a natural sports drink, coconut water keeps one hydrated.

Low in calories

Coconut water according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has less sugar and carbohydrates than most juices. It also has more minerals and electrolytes like sodium and potassium.

Contains potassium

Potassium helps keep fluid and electrolyte balance in the body, especially during exercise. Because there is more potassium than sodium in coconut water, the potassium may help balance out sodium’s effect on blood pressure and possibly even help in lowering it.

High in antioxidants

Apart from its hydrating benefits, coconut water contains antioxidants which help to neutralise oxidative stress in the body.  Fresh coconut water is more preferable in recent study than processed one when you are seeking for its antioxidant content.

Good for rebuilding body tissues

 Coconut water contains more alanine, arginine, cysteine, and serine than cow’s milk. It’s a major source of arginine an amino acid that helps your body respond to stress (like the stress caused by a difficult workout). Arginine may also help keep the heart healthy.
