Fayemi, Badaru, Back Shekarau Against Ganduje In Kano APC Crisis

Governors Kayode Fayemi and Abubakar Badaru of Ekiti and Jigawa states on Saturday backed Senator Ibrahim Shekarau against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano in the internal crisis heating the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The backing of the two governors for the Shekarau faction came when they addressed Ahmadu Haruna Zago (Danzago) as the chairman of the Kano State chapter of the APC.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Zago is aligned to the Shekarau faction of the APC as against the faction aligned to Governor Ganduje which has Abdullahi Abbas as chairman.

The Shekarau faction was recognized as the authentic faction of the APC in Kano by the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Fayemi, who is also the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Badaru recognised Zago at a public lecture marking the 21st anniversary of Mambayya House, Bayero University’s Centre for Democratic Studies. Governor Ganduje was not present but his associates were everywhere in the hall.

It was the first time since the factional state congresses that a senior party or elected political official would address Zago as chairman of the party in Kano State.

Following his recognition by the Abuja Court last Tuesday, hoodlums on Thursday ransacked the campaign office of Senator Barau Jibrin, one of the notable chieftains aligned to the Shekarau faction.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Shekarau tendency and that inclined to Ganduje had organized parallel congresses on October 18 in which rival executives emerged.

Zago who emerged chairman of the faction inclined to Shekarau is also remarkably a close associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, having served as chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC in Kano.

Meanwhile,  GreenWhiteGreen GWG gathered that the national secretariat is yet to receive the court ruling from the Abuja court.

A high ranking official who should know told  GreenWhiteGreen GWG that the order had yet to be served on the secretariat. He said that whenever it is served that the party leadership would consider it.
