Knocks For Sanwo-Olu Over Mandatory Vaccination To Attend Events In Lagos

Published

on

Following the declaration by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu that attendees at social gatherings in the state must provide vaccination cards before being allowed entry, the governor has received knocks from a section of Nigerians.

They queried how such a mandate could be issued, despite the very low rate of vaccination in the state and country as a whole.

Gov Sanwo-Olu in a statement on Wednesday said, “All social events must be duly registered to obtain Event Safety Clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission website: www.lasgsafetyreg.com prior to holding; and the guidelines set out below must be strictly adhered to.

“Where possible, events should be held outdoors and occupancy limit at any event must not exceed 60 percent of the maximum design capacity of the event centre.

“Everybody, irrespective of vaccination status, MUST be subject to Rapid Diagnostic test (Antigen) to be conducted at the event venue or within 24hrs prior to the event at designated laboratories. (Request for rapid tests at the venue requires an application through the Safety Commission),” he said.

In reaction to the mandate, some users took to social media to query the decision. Some pointed out that it’s just another avenue for some individuals to make money, while some saw it as a plot to scupper plans for Detty December (December celebrations), others wondered how the instructions will be enforced.
