A student of the Osun State University was set ablaze for refusing to join a cult group, the school’s management confirmed on Monday.

The incident was confirmed in a statement released by Ademola Adesoji, the University’s Public Relations Officer. The victim of the callous act was identified as Victor Oke, a part-time final year Political Science student.

The statement revealed that Victor Oke was hacked by his assailants with machetes, shot, then set ablaze and left for dead, but was luckily rescued and taken to the hospital before he could be burnt to death.

The University further called on security agencies to make sure the perpetrators of the dastardly act are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.

The University statement reads: We noticed that Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents.

“It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

“Victor was shouting that he was not joining their cult group while they continued to hit him with cutlasses, hard stones and attempted to burn him, partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.

“The University security unit is currently working with the Police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to book. The cultists must be arrested.”
