While many fans are still raving over the Super Eagles’ bright start against Egypt at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON Nigeria still needs to overcome Sudan to clinch qualification to the next round.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will confirm their berth in the knockouts if they scoop all three points against Sudan in their second match of Group D at the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon on Saturday evening. Despite a brilliant performance in the group opener, there is still a lot to play for and Nigerian players have to remain focused to see out Sudan.

Here are three important tips on how Nigeria can overcome Sudan to qualify for the AFCON knockout round.

No Room For Complacency

Augustine Eguavoen’s men must show total concentration for their second group game if they want to emerge victors against Sudan. Sudan are desperate for a win after a draw in their first match and will be looking to go all out for the three points.

The Super Eagles will have to show great discipline, character and responsibility despite having put in a tantalising performance over Egypt.

A twitch in the tactical setup

Nigeria were set up more defensively against Egypt in their group oopener and understandably because of the threat posed by their talismanic Mohammed Salah. It was a great move by Eguavoen which paid off as Salah was kept locked in throughout the game. But Nigeria need a strong attacking display against Sudan to see them overcome and move into the AFCON knockout stages.

They should be seen playing on the front foot from start to finish and creating enough chances throughout the entire 90 minutes.

Ahmed Musa for Samuel Chukwueze

Samuel Chukwueze, did not live up to the expectation as he put in a lackadaisical performance against Egypt which saw him subbed off in the 72nd minute.

With Moses Simon in blistering form, Eguavoen could bring in Ahmed Musa, who can add experience to the attack and pose more threat to the opponents. His speed and deft finishing will be a plus for the Super Eagles on the right wing and will boost their chances of emerging victorious.
