Kidnappers Gunned Down In Edo

Some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers were shot and killed along the Benin-Auchi road in Edo State on Wednesday after they came out for their illicit business for the second day.

It was learnt that the incident happened at Okwo community, in Ehor, Uhunmwode local government area of the State on the Benin-Auchi road during a gun battle.

It was learnt that the kidnappers had reportedly blocked the road on Tuesday morning, but were forced into the bush by security operatives after gun battle which lasted over an hours.

It was further gathered that stray bullet hit unidentified SUV driver on the shoulder while motorists and committers were stranded for several hours.

It was also learnt that the hoodlums again appeared on the road on Wednesday morning, attempting to kidnap travelers but were engaged in a gun battle with security operatives and in the process gun down three of them while others escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds.

When contacted, the state police command’s Spokesman, SP Kontongs Bello, confirmed the incident that some suspected kidnappers were shot in Edo State on Wednesday.

“It’s true, it happened yesterday [Tuesday] at 0620hrs, Okwo in Ehor area, but the combined team of the police and the military foiled the attempt, nobody was kidnapped, one person, a young man driving Lexus 350 was hit in his car in his shoulder.

“Today (Wednesday), the hoodlums come out again and three of them were gun down by the combined team of the police, military and vigilentee. Edo must be safe,” he said.
