Akinwunmi Ambode cautioned against moving to PDP

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has cautioned the immediate past Governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, against yielding to the pressures of joining the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The caution from the ruling party came against online buzz suggesting that Ambode could join the PDP and successfully win another term in office.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Ambode lost his bid for re-election after losing the APC primary election in 2019 to Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The primary loss shadowed intrigues after he was reported to have lost reckoning with party leaders in Lagos led by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He by that became the only governor since the advent of the Fourth Republic to have served only one term as governor in Lagos.

Responding to the online buzz during an interview session with Punch, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, said that while the former governor was free to join the opposition party, he advised him not to do so as he would not get the ticket.

Oladejo said the PDP had made it clear that Olajide Adediran, aka Jandor would be its governorship candidate in the next poll.

He said Ambode should therefore not be deceived by the dubious ways of the opposition party.

The Lagos APC spokesman stated, “I think the PDP is idle and the PDP is just promising people. How many governorship tickets do they want to give out? Haven’t they promised the ticket to Jandor? So they are now reaching out to Ambode?

“One would expect that Mr Akinwunmi Ambode would know better than to dance to the tune of deceit in the PDP. What is the PDP’s record in governorship elections in Lagos State? Anyone who gets a PDP ticket is certain of failure.”

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that before the buzz of Ambode joining the PDP that APC leaders in the state under the aegis of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC had said that it was presently not opposed to a second term for Sanwo-Olu..
