Rotimi Amaechi’s potential rivals for the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC were on Saturday mum as Daura, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State, was agog, received a traditional title.

Amaechi and Alhaji Nasiru Haladu Danu, a businessman, received traditional titles of Dan Amanar Daura and Tafida Babba Daura respectively.

The traditional titles were conferred on the duo by the Emir, Dr Umar Faruk Umar, in recognition of their immense contributions to the development of the emirate, Katsina and the nation in general.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that though Senators Rochas Okorocha and Orji Uzor Kalu similarly received titles from the Daura Emirate and have similarly inclined themselves towards the 2023 presidential contest but that the significance of their titles have paled in sheer significance to the way and manner Amaechi has been bestowed his title.

Emirate officials have justified the title on Amaechi on the way he has pushed infrastructure and development towards Daura. They have mentioned in particular, the University of Transportation sited in the town and the Kano – Maradi rail line which connects the people of Daura to the Niger Republic.

While Daura emirate officials sought to distance the conferment on Amaechi from politics some other political stakeholders have noted the contributions of the minister to the emergence of Buhari as president in 2015 and also in 2019 when he was the campaign manager. He was also believed to have facilitated the funding of the campaign in 2015 while he was governor of the oil-rich Rivers State.

Sources say that Amaechi has continued to keep his 2023 intentions strictly under the wraps waiting for a sign from President Buhari.

Remarkably, in his potential rivals for the ticket including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, among others were on Saturday yet to congratulate him or identify with him on the award.

Meanwhile, In his address shortly after the turbaning, the Emir reiterated his reason behind the conferment of the titles.

“Daura Emirate does not give title anyhow but to people who deserve its tittle like the two we are recognising today.”

“We’re indeed grateful to the Federal Government, political leaders, traditional as well as religious leaders from all parts of the country for honouring our invitation to witness the occasion,” he said.

The emir reassured his total commitment and continuous support to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and all policies and programmes of the Katsina State Government under the leadership of government Aminu Masari.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the chief host, Governor Aminu Masari, Heads of MDAs and traditional leaders from all parts of the country.

Earlier, the transport minister, who has been in the state since Friday, was received by a governorship aspirant in Katsina state, Senator Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua, at the Katsina-Jigawa border were they inspected the construction of the University of Transport in Daura.

While speaking to journalists at the site of the University in Daura, Amaechi said the honour done to him by the Emir meant a lot to him.
