Arsenal, Tottenham, Others In Race For Osimhen

Arsenal are currently leading the race to sign Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, ahead of the summer transfer window. A hosts of Europe’s big names are all in line for the striker’s signature as he continues to impress at Napoli in Serie A.

The Gunners are in search of a number 9 following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona. The Gabon captain left the club after a series of disagreements between him and the manager, and with the club now left with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as the only striking options.

Both strikers are out of contract in the summer and have refused to renew their deals. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Osimhen and he looks to bring him to London to fill the void created by the departure of Aubameyang.

North London rivals Tottenham are among a list of teams who are also in the race to sign the striker as they battle Arsenal for his signature. The Nigeria international is now worth over the €70m Napoli paid to acquire him from Lille in 2020. Osimhen had played under the gaze of Tottenham coach Antonio Conte while he was in Italy.

Osimhen was unavailable in the Nigeria squad at the last African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon on account of injury but has since bounced back at Napoli and now drawing the attention of Arsenal and other English teams.
