Pan Ocean Oil Gives Scholarships To Ika, Urhonigbe Communities

Pan Ocean Oil Corporation has presented letters of scholarship award to select indigent students from the host communities in the OML 147 operation field.

48 students were picked from Agbor-Alidinma, Ekuku-Agbor, Obiayima, Owa-Alidinma, Ndemili and Urhonugbe communities in both Delta and Edo States in the scholarship programme.

Speaking at the event at Owa-Alidinma Flow Station,  Pan Ocean Public  Relations Manager, Mr Patrick Ketiku said aside the scholarship programmes, some members of the host communities were carefully selected and enrolled for the Graduate Trainee Programme which will lead to their absorption into the company on completion of training.

According to him, “these programmes are  aimed at building capacity for graduates seeking employment into the company and also, giving educational support to indigent students from the six communities in OML 147.  While some students will have scholarship for secondary education, others will benefit for university education.”

He announced that the scholarship programme will be reviewed yearly.

While congratulating the beneficiaries, Mr Ketiku  urged them to be ambassadors of their families, communities and Pan Ocean. He noted that Pan Ocean will continue to  exceed expectations in corporate social responsibilities in her area of operations, stressing that the company will not take the support from the  traditional rulers and indigenes in the area for granted.

Representatives of the six host communities expressed appreciation to the oil company for the gesture, adding that they will continue to ensure peaceful environment for mutual benefits. They specifically appealed to the company not to renege on the memorandum of understanding reached by all  the parties. .

The highpoint of the event was the presentation of award letters to the beneficiaries of the Pan Ocean Oil scholarships.

The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the governors of Delta and Edo States, traditional rulers,  chairmen of Ika North-East and Ika South Local Government Councils, community leaders and strategic stakeholders.
