Manchester City travelled to Lisbon as favourites in a Round of 16 tie against Portuguese champions Sporting CP, and key facts emerged showing why they are frontrunners to win the Champions League this season thumping their opponents 0-5.

The Cityzens went into the game off the back of an unbeaten run in their last eight games and they were determined to extend that run. City ran the show to keep their  European dreams alive scoring five goals away from home. Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling were all on the score sheet, but it was the little Portuguese that caught the eye with his talismanic man of the match performance scoring twice and creating one goal.

Silva’s first goal of the game was an absolute firecracker of a strike and is a contender for goal of the tournament.

 Here are some key facts from the Manchester City game with Sporting CP;

• Manchester City kept a clean sheet for the first time in a while since keeping just one clean sheet in their last 11 matches in the competition.

• Manchester City are the first team in UEFA Champions League history to lead an away game by 4+ goals at half-time in the knockout stages of the competition.

• Manchester City have become the 14th team to score 200 goals in the UEFA Champions League – it’s taken them just 97 games to reach that milestone, fewer than any of the other 13 teams in the competition.

• Riyad Mahrez is now the highest goalscorer for Manchester City across all competitions this season with 17 goals and the Algerian is now 2nd only behind Liverpool’s Mo Salah for the most goals scored for a Premier League team for the season.
