The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC was on Monday evening swallowed in controversy after the party reversed an earlier decision postponing its national convention indefinitely and fixed it for March 26.

The convention will now hold on March 26, the date the party had earlier slated for the conduct of its zonal congresses.

The decision to fix the national convention came after it emerged that party officials had quietly notified the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of an indefinite postponement of the national convention.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the party had written INEC stating that it would hold the Zonal Congresses on March 26. That was against the earlier date of February 26, 2022 for the national convention. The Zonal Congresses are expected to precede the national convention.

In the letter dated 21st February 2022 addressed to the INEC Chairman and jointly signed by Governor Buni and the National Secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, the APC said:

“This notice supersedes our earlier notice for National Convention referenced APC/NHDQ/INEC/019/22/14 this is predicated on the evaluation of our Party Constitution.

“In furtherance to Article 85 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and compliance with Section 12:6 of our Party Constitution we hereby write to notify the Commission that our great Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled to hold its Zonal Congresses on Saturday 26th March, 2022.

“Kindly arrange for your officials to monitor the exercise accordingly.

“While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurances of our highest esteem”.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the APC governors are gathered in Abuja in strategic meetings on the future direction of the party and the decision to hold the national convention on March 26 was a product of horsetrading.
