Lagos Police Apprehend Three For Valentine Day Rape

Three men were on Wednesday apprehended in Lagos by policemen for the gang rape of a minor on Valentine Day.

The suspects, David Gideon, 21, Sodiq Olayitan, 24, and Mubarak Tajudeen, 23, were said to have abducted, gagged and took turns to rape a 14-year-old girl at Lakeview Estate, Phase Two, Amuwo Odofin.

It was learnt that the incident occurred around 5:30pm on February 14 and the boys who committed the crime were four.

Police spokesman Adekunle Ajisebutu said efforts were on to arrest the fourth suspect.

Ajisebutu said the police moved to the scene as soon as they received information, adding that they recovered a cutlass, dagger, hammer and charms from the suspects.

He said the suspects alleged to have been involved in the Valentine Day rape of the Lagos girl have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti. The transfer was at the instance of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Abiodun Alabi and it was for discreet investigation. It was also reported that the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Chief Judge (CJ) of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, on Wedneday freed 33 inmates of the three Custodial Centres of thẹ Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Custodial Centres are Ikoyi, Kirikiri Medium and Kirikiri Maximum Custodial Centers.

Of the 33 inmates, eight were released from the Ikoyi Custodial Centre,  while 11 and 14 were freed from the Kirikiri Maximum and Medium Custodial Centres respectively.

The inmates were pardoned at an open court session presided over by the Chief Judge at the premises of Justice Samuel Ilori Court House, Ogba, Lagos
