Former Governor Charged With Harassing Lady With Nude Photographs Relieved As Malami Withdraws Case

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, February 24, 2022 struck out a criminal charge brought against former Governor Ikedi Ohakim of harassing a lady with her nude photographs.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo struck out the charge upon an application brought by the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, SAN to study the file.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Ohakim and the complainant had been acquintances and the lady and in a relationship that went sour.

Ohakim and one Chinedu Okpaleke were being prosecuted by the Federal Government after they were alleged to have threatened to release the nude photographs of Chinyere Amuchienwa, if she failed to drop charges of attempted kidnap against them.

The lady had upon the threat petitioned the police who brought the charge against Ohakim and Okpaleke.

The police had in the In the five-count charge dated November 25, 2020, alleged that Ohakim and Okpaleke, knowingly and intentionally transmitted communication through a computer system to harass and bully Amuchienwa. The offence according to the charge is punishable under Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrime Act 2015.

Some of the charges bothering on harassing the lady with her nude photographs brought against former Governor Ohakim and others, read;

“That you Chinendu Okpareke ‘m’ 49, and Ikedi Ohakim ‘m’ and others now at large on Aug. 13, 2020 within the jurisdiction of this court did conspire among yourselves by knowingly and intentionally sending messages by means of computer system or network in a grossly offensive, pornographic, nude of an indecent obscene and menacing character of one Chinyere Amuchienwa ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 27 (1)(a) of the Cybercrime Act 2015.

That you Chinendu Okpareke ‘m’ 49, and Ikedi Ohakim ‘m’ and others now at large on Aug. 13, 2020 within the jurisdiction of this court did conspire among yourselves to cause annoyance and criminal intimidation to one Chinyere Amuchienwa ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 27 (1)(a) of the Cybercrime Act 2015.”

 However, at the hearing on Thursday, February 24, 2022, Sani Bagudu, from the office of the AGF  applied to withdraw the matter to enable the AGF study the case file and take appropriate action.

Upon the submission, Justice Taiwo Taiwo struck out the case.
