Liverpool cut the gap with league leaders Manchester City to three points with a well-managed 0-2 win to struggling Brighton and Hove Albion with their hitman Mo Salah again breaking new EPL records.

Brighton who were on a dismal four-game losing streak heading into the clash were dealt another blow as Liverpool took an early lead via their new man Luis Dias. The Colombian with a brave header got the opener after he was set up by Joel Matip, the Premier League’s player of the month for February. The last time Liverpool lost away to Brighton was in the 1984 FA Cup and the Reds were looking to preserve that record as they went into the break one goal ahead.

Given the continued speculation surrounding Mo Salah’s contract negotiations, you would forgive the Egyptian for looking a little off-colour but Liverpool’s star man got his customary goal on 61 minutes from the spot. Yves Bissouma was the offender in the box and Salah hammered home to double the visitors’ lead and reach 20 Premier League goals for yet another season. Klopp’s men strolled to an eighth straight Premier League win, with just three points behind table toppers City who come up against Crystal Palace on Monday.

We outline key facts from the game as Liverpool beat Brighton 0-2 ;

• Joel Matip registered his fourth assist of the season after he was recently named Premier League Player of the Month for February, becoming the first ever Cameroonian to claim the award and also the first central defender to win the award since his teammate Virgil Van Dijk in December 2018.

• Adam Lallana has been substituted on and substituted off in four Premier League games, a joint-record in Premier League history along with Keith Gillespie.

• In Liverpool’s Premier League history, only Steven Gerrard (212 – 120 goals, 92 assists) has had a direct hand in more goals for the club than Mo Salah (158 – 115 goals, 43 assists), moving level with Robbie Fowler.

• Mo Salah has now scored 20+ Premier League goals for the fourth consecutive season since joining in 2016, breaking records and joining an exclusive list of Premier League greats such as;

Alan Shearer – 7 seasons

Sergio Aguero – 6 seasons

Thierry Henry – 5 seasons

Harry Kane – 5 seasons

Ruud Van Nistelrooy – 4 seasons
