New insights have revealed how South-South leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC ensured that the minister of Niger Delta Affairs and immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio was denied making inputs into the new National Working Committee, NWC of the party.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the three NWC positions allocated to the South-South zone were shared as follows; National Vice Chairman, (Rivers/Bayelsa); National Publicity Secretary, (Edo/Delta) and National Woman Leader, Cross River/Akwa Ibom).

For the National Vice-Chairman, it was left to the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who produced Hon Victor Giadom. The position of National Vice-Chairman, it was gathered, was sought by Amaechi in the light of the continued speculations on his 2023 presidential bid.

“He needs that position to have his man watch over the region for him,” a source revealed.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege produced the National Publicity Secretary in the person of Hon. Felix Morka while  Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State produced the National Woman Leader in the person of his commissioner for health, Dr. Betta Edu.

Other lesser positions in the national executive were, however, handed to Akpabio and other zonal leaders who did not get anything from the prime NWC positions.

Akpabio and Senator John James Akpanudoede, the dominant APC leaders from Akwa Ibom State were left to share the positions of deputy national welfare officer and zonal secretary that came to the state.

Explaining the circumstances, a source privy to the development said that Akpabio was not considered by his contemporary South-South leaders in the composition of the NWC on the premise of his role in the affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

“Every South-South leader is angry with Akpabio, every one, they are all angry with him” a very prominent leader of the party told GreenWhiteGreen GWG.

Akpabio to the chagrin of the other APC South-South leaders, it is alleged, has taken the dominance in the NDDC through the appointment of an associate as Sole Administrator leaving other regional leaders who had made inputs into the NDDC board seething with anger.

Akpabio and his associates had in the past given the excuse of a forensic audit of the affairs of the commission but the forensic audit ended and a report submitted but the commission has remained in the hands of the sole administrator.

Another chieftain who did not get a position in the NWC was the minister of state for petroleum, Timipire Sylva. However, GreenWhiteGreen GWG understands that regional leaders are engaged in a troubleshooting exercise to appease him.

Meanwhile, GreenWhiteGreen GWG understands that the meetings that were held to agree on the consensus have also helped to build peace in the party in the region with some leaders who had been aloof now coming together. Among those who have reportedly reconciled are the pair of Senator Omo-Agege and
