Karim Benzema Should Win The 2022 Ballon d’Or – Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United and England legend Rio Ferdinand has given his thoughts on why he thinks that Karim Benzema should win the 2022 Ballon d’Or.

The former central defender chose Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as his favourite for the award after yet another stunning performance in the Champions League. The striker scored a scintillating hat-trick in the quarterfinals of the Champions League against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to give his side a 3-1 first leg advantage.

Rio Ferdinand who was a pundit on Wednesday night for BT Sport, expressed his admiration for Madrid’s No 9 as he showered the Frenchman with praises after a brilliant individual showing against Chelsea, saying; “They should be half way to engraving Benzema’s name on the 2022 Ballon d’Or”.

Karim Benzema proved his class yet again this season as he scored another hat-trick to make it back-to-back trebles in the Champions League knockout rounds after doing so against Paris Saint Germain in the Round of 16, becoming only the second player in the competition’s history to achieve that feat alongside former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Remarkably, France Football Association had announced that the Ballon d’Or will now be awarded to the best player over a single  campaign and that is obviously good news for Benzema as he looks to be in the driving seat for the award. The 34-year-old has scored 37 goals and registered 13 assists in 36 games for Los Blancos this term, and is now the player with the most goal contributions in 2021/22.
