Osinbajo-led NEC Suspends, Pushes Fuel Subsidy Removal To Tinubu's Desk

Hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo declared his 2023 presidential aspiration following a meeting with the powerful club of governors in the All Progressives Congress, APC, his leading rival, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was on Monday morning himself locked in a meeting with the same governors.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the APC governors as immediate shepherds of the delegates are key to the emergence of a possible presidential candidate in a direct or indirect primary election.

Tinubu had at the beginning of the year informally declared his interest in seeking the presidency following a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Among his rivals for the APC presidential ticket is Osinbajo, who served as his commissioner for justice for two terms between 1999 and 2007.

The interest of the two men has sharply divided the party base in the Southwest.

Osinbajo formally declared his interest in the office earlier on Monday in a video message posted on his twitter handle. He had the night before met with about 12 APC governors.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the meeting is being held behind closed doors at the Kebbi state Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

The Tinubu and Osinbajo camps have in the last hours been bandying figures as to the number of APC governors supporting their respective aspirations.
