Peace Beckons In Delta APC As Amaechi, Omo-Agege, Bury Hatchet With 2023 In View

A new wave of peace is evolving in the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC after years of factional infighting that was fueled by ego and quest for supremacy.

The new wave of peace is coming after Senator Ovie Omo-Agege triumphed over his local rivals in the APC; notably, Chief Great Ogboru, Olorogun Festus Keyamo and their allies.

Indicative of the peace was the fact that unlike in 2018 when the APC tendencies in Delta State openly fought and threw chairs at each other at the convention ground, the 2022 convention weaved a different narrative of bonding.

Indeed, the most remarkable move for peace in the Delta State chapter of the APC was the rapprochement between Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and Omo-Agege on the convention ground on Saturday.

The peace move has also been partly helped by the unfortunate death of Keyamo’s father. GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Keyamo had taken leadership of the group of party chiefs who were opposed to Omo-Agege under the aegis of the Delta APC Leadership Council.

That group comprised some of the most formidable names in the party including Ogboru, Ochei, Dr (Mrs.) Mariam Ali, Dr. Alex Ideh, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh among many others.

The quarrel between Omo-Agege and Ogboru was remarkable especially given the fact both men were collaborators in the fight to remove the former party leader, Olorogun Otega Emerhor from his position as party leader. Indeed, given the background of the 2018 Eagle Square fight between the Otega Emerhor group and the Omo-Agege/Ogboru group, few would have believed that Ogboru and Omo-Agege would ever fight.

However, the 2023 governorship ticket, ego, among others are cited by party stakeholders for the mutual war of acrimony that forced Ogboru to side with Keyamo and some of those he had fought against.

The gulf between both tendencies in Delta widened last year when Omo-Agege took everything in the state structure after the Keyamo group decided to boycott the congresses.

In fury, Keyamo and his group were quick to denounce the congresses that produced the new leadership of the party. Keyamo in a meeting with some of his associates last December described the new executive led by veteran politician Elder (Engr.) Omeni Aruoture Sobotie as “house boys and house girls” of Omo-Agege, words that cut deep and banished immediate hope of peace within the APC in Delta.

The Omo-Agege tendency immediately replied that Keyamo does not have followership on ground and dubbed him a WhatsApp politician.

That back and forth continued until two major issues brought the two tendencies together.

With the 2023 election coming, Omo-Agege softened towards his rivals and some of his rivals outside the state also bent towards him.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG understands that Rotimi Amaechi who had been seen as the leader of the South-South APC until the emergence of Omo-Agege had been in a cold war with the Deputy President of the Senate. It was reflective of the cold war that Keyamo and Ochei who are well known associates of Amaechi’s took parallel positions with Omo-Agege on nearly all issues.

However, towards the last national convention it was learnt that Amaechi needed Omo-Agege’s support for the emergence of Victor Giadom as national vice-chairman. That support paid off with Ochei making peace with Omo-Agege openly on the convention ground with eminent leaders of the APC from Delta looking on.

Even more, an act of God also happened with the death of Keyamo’s father in March. It was an opportunity for the Sobotie led exco to extend the hand of fellowship to Keyamo. Not only did the executive condole with him, Sobotie it was gathered, practically carried the whole exco to console with Keyamo.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG also gathered that the peace making also reached Omo-Agege as the DSP also visited with Keyamo in Abuja.

With the death of his father and the goodwill from the Omo-Agege tendency, Keyamo would be expected to calm his agitations as he has indeed recently done on issues affecting the APC in Delta. That is especially given the fact that his political leader, Amaechi has now thrown his hat into the presidential race.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Amaechi factor is especially considerable over Keyamo given the fact that the Transportation minister gave Keyamo his job as presidential campaign spokesman in 2018.

However, with everyone finding his place in Delta APC, one prominent name that is missing in the peace shooting offensive is Ogboru. The Peoples General according to multiple reports is on his way to the Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso inspired New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP. Whether he would be running for governor or as running mate to Kwankwanso remains the butt of much speculations in Delta.

However, for Omo-Agege followers, his imminent exit is being anxiously awaited with joy!
