2023: Watch Out, Jonathan Tells His Campaigners
By GWG Abuja Bureau Chief
President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday morning told scores of women and youth campaigners who besieged his Maitama, Abuja office urging him to enter the race for the 2023 presidential election to watch out.
The demonstrators who came to show their love for him were bussed to the office in four buses and carried different placards to carry their message to him.
Among the inscriptions on the placards were “We are sorry, Goodluck don’t abandon us, come back”; “Goodluck please come” : “Goodluck declare now”; “Goodluck we love you” among many others.
According to the supporters Goodluck Jonathan is in the best position to restore Nigeria’s pride of place and give all Nigerians a sense of belonging.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the demonstration was organized by Youth Compatriots of Nigeria.
The convener of the group, Mayor Samuel, speaking on the reason for the demonstration said:
“We were deceived and brainwashed by those who claimed they could do it in 2015.
“Now, we know better, under Jonathan the minimum wage could buy one or two bags of rice. What do we have today? We are begging President Jonathan to forgive us, we have realized our mistakes, we want him back to complete what he started.”
Responding to the call from the campaigners to join the 2023 race, Jonathan after observing the demonstration from inside his office, stepped out and told them that he was still considering some factors.
The former president said he was aware that they were “here to ask me to declare,” but added “I cannot declare because some process are still ongoing.”
“Yes you are calling me to come and declare for the next election, I cannot tell I’m declaring. The political process is ongoing just watch out. The key role you must play is that Nigeria must get somebody that will carry young people along.”
It would be recalled that another group, The Nigerian Young Professionals in Diaspora, NYPD, had earlier given Dr Jonathan a one week ultimatum to declare for the contest or be dragged to court.
