Oyo Government Updates On Appointment Of New Alaafin One Year After Oba Adeyemi's Demise

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, is dead sources confirmed early on Saturday. He becomes the third top monarch in Oyo State to die within five months following the earlier passing on of the former Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Adetunji and the Soun of Ogbomoso.

Oba Adeyemi died at 83 on Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti as he was being prepared to be evacuated abroad for medical treatment sources disclosed on Saturday. It was gathered that tickets had been purchased for him and some of his wives and aides who were expected to accompany him.

Alaafin Adeyemi, who was from the Alowolodu Ruling House was the longest ruling Alaafin on the throne, having reigned for 52 years.,

It was gathered that the remains of the deceased monarch have been brought to Oyo according to sources quoting palace officials.

Governor Seyi Makinde is yet to make an official announcement of the death of the monarch.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the monarch had been ailing for sometime and last December rumours of his passing on were debunked by a palace official.

With the Alaafin dead, the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, who is the head of the powerful ‘Oyo Mesi’, who will now lead Oyo town before the installation of a new Alaafin.
