There are no signs that the lingering challenge over control of the structure of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State will end before the 2023 general election with fears that the party may not field candidates for the election in the state.

The fear of not fielding candidates followed a deepening of the crisis that has led to the emergence of parallel factions and executives of the party in the state.

Currently there are two state executives of the party, one chaired by Stephen Ntukekpo and loyal to Senator Godswill Akpabio and  another chaired by Augustine Ekanem and loyal to Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.

Some sources privy to recent happenings in the party were even quick to speculate at the weekend that Godswill Akpabio is currently in control having gotten the approval of the national leadership of the party.

The recognition of the Akpabio faction is despite the lingering court battle between the two factions that has also led to accusations of forgery brought against his factional chairman.

Nevertheless, Akpanudoedehe, the immediate past national secretary is reported to have commenced moves for a peaceful resolution of the dispute in the face of the possibility of the APC in Akwa Ibom not fielding candidates in the forthcoming election as happened in Rivers State.

Akpanudoedehe did not respond to phone call or text message to him as at press time.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that some groups had in the recent past expressed concern that the troubles in the party could lead the party not to field candidates in the forthcoming General Election in Akwa Ibom.
