Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Monday declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He received the forms from a group styled as the National Stability Project, led by Chief Sam Nkire.

The group including at least 15 senators purchased the forms earlier on Monday before presenting the forms to the Senate President.

Senator Ahmad Lawan said that he was entering the presidential race upon calls from several quarters.

“I want to commit myself to this call from all walks of life. This is not my journey. This is our journey because every hand must be on deck to take the country to the next level,” he said.

While noting that he was joining the race very late, he nevertheless pledged to abide by the rules of the game.

“I will play the games by the rule. I will not circumvent any rule. I will not go against our party rules.
