Jonathan Mum On APC Membership, Rejects Nomination Forms
Dr Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential expression of interest and nomination forms obtained for him by a group, the Nomadic Herders and Almajiris Community in Nigeria. He was, however, mum on claims that he had become an APC member.
While he said that he did not authorize anyone to purchase the forms for him, an aide of President Muhammadu Buhari affirmed that he, Jonathan was already an APC member as the forms could not be purchased for anyone who is not a member of the party.
Dr Jonathan, in a statement sent to GreenWhiteGreen GWG by his Media Adviser Ikechukwu Eze, titled RE: PURPORTED PURCHASE OF APC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION FORM FOR FORMER PRESIDENT JONATHAN, the former president said:
“It has come to the notice of His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, of the All Progressives Congress (the APC), in his name.
“We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorize it.
“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state that he has not in any way, committed himself to this request.
“ We thank the general public for their concern, as we continue to encourage citizen participation in the affairs of the country,” the Jonathan aide said in rejecting the nomination forms of the APC.
The president was, however, mum on claims that he was an APC member that was thrown up by presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad.
