A protest has been staged in some parts of Sokoto leading to a confrontation between policemen and some youths demanding the release of Muslim fanatics who killed and burnt a lady, Deborah Yakubu, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto over religious differences.

In response, Governor Aminu Tambuwal has slammed a 24 hour curfew on the state capital to forestall further violence that has reportedly left at least five persons injured.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that at least two of the members of the mob who killed her and burnt her while alive have been incarcerated with many civil right activists demanding their prosecution.

However, a mob in support of the action took to the streets of Sokoto on Saturday to demand for the release of the incarcerated persons.

They carried several posters calling for the release one of which said “RELEASE AND FREE OUR BROTHERS, WE ARE MUSLIMS NOT TERRORISTS.”

The protest led to the firing of live police bullets to quell the unfolding riot over the demand for the release of the assassins who killed Deborah. One report said that as many as five persons have been injured in the crisis which is bound to further worry authorities over the unfolding development.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the head of all Muslims in the country, His Eminence, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto alongside the governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal have condemned the crisis in the school.
