In a bid to stave off the reported defection of President Goodluck Jonathan from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 visited the former president at his sprawling Maitama residence in Abuja.

GWGNG reports that the governor’s move came in the wake of multiple reports in the media that President Jonathan was about being gifted the presidential ticket of the APC, the party that ran him out of power seven years ago.

Governor Ortom served as  Minister of State, Trade and Investment and later the supervising Minister of Ministry of Aviation by President Jonathan.

The duo met behind closed doors for more than 40 minutes and discussed frankly according to a statement issued by the governor’s media office. However, further details were not given.

Although none of them spoke to the press when they came out, they were beaming with smiles with the former President exchanging pleasantries with everyone on the Governors entourage.

It is believed that the fortunes of PDP and the victory of the party in the forthcoming general elections may have been central in their discussions according to a statement issued by the governor’s media team.

Some of the Governor’s aides who accompanied him included Dr James Anbua, Principal Special Assistant, Hon. Steven Amase, Principal Private Secretary to the Governor and Hon. Abrahams Kwaghngu, Principal Special Assistant on Special Duties, Director, Benue State Liaison among others.

GWGNG reports that the Ortom visit to Jonathan came against permutations of the formal defection of President Jonathan to the APC following the purchase of the party’s N100 million presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for him by some unknown interest groups within the party.
