The pressure on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State in his bid for the 2023 governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC was on Tuesday facing new permutations after a second aspirant joined in the fight against him.

The second aspirant, Mr. Abdul-Ahmed Olorunfemi Mustapha, a former permanent secretary joins Hon Wale Oluwo who served in the cabinet of the immediate past governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode. Oluwo was commissioner for Energy.

GWGNG reports that Oluwo is generally regarded as the face of the Ambode camp which is in sworn rivalry with the Sanwo-Olu camp, the face of the godfather of Lagos politics, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Mustapha who opened up on his aspiration at a press conference in Lagos affirmed his determination to change the narrative in Lagos as he pledged to prioritise education, healthcare and infrastructure.

He said that if elected, Lagosians would see a Lagos that works  affirming that Lagos deserves the best in leadership which he said it is presently not having.

“Where Lagos State finds itself now is not different from where City of New York found itself in the 70s. Where are the new ideas we have to table?

“For instance, we need to build new schools, we need to build new hospitals, we need to provide equipment for the new hospitals. We need to build new infrastructure. We want each and every citizen irrespective of your background to be able to become whoever you chose to be.

“The government would put in support system that allows you to be able to achieve the objective irrespective of your background, whether you are informal sector participant, whether you are doctor, whether you are a lawyer, whether you are a student.

“The time now calls for men of goodwill and idea to come to the table and bring in ideas that will cause critical growth in the education sector, in the health sector, in the infrastructure space,” he said.

GWGNG reports that there is, however, speculation that the emergence of Mustapha could rather than add pressure to Sanwo-Olu, help him as it could divide the opposition to the governor in the forthcoming Lagos APC primaries.
