The police command in Kano State, has confirmed the killing of four persons after a gas explosion on Tuesday morning in Kano even as the Nigerian Airforce, NAF.

Mr Samaila Dikko, the state Commissioner of Police, said this in a radio and television broadcast on Tuesday in Kano.

Dikko said that the gas exploded at a welding point near a primary school on Aba Road in Sabon Gari, Kano.

He said that rescue workers were making efforts to discover people trapped at the building where the explosion occurred.

Dikko urged residents of the state to remain calm as the situation was under control.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the explosion which occurred near the Winners Kids Academy resulted in damage in some buildings in the area.

Meanwhile, the effort by the police boss to confirm the killing of four persons in the Kano explosion came as authorities of the Nigerian Air Force postponed its 2022 celebration billed to hold in Kano.

The event initially scheduled for Thursday has now been shifted to  Saturday.

NAF spokesman Edward Gabkwet, who announced the shift in a terse statement issued in Abuja did not give reason for the postponement. However, a senior NAF officer cited the the explosion in Kano.

However, announcing the celebration, Gabkwet, an Air Commodore, said the postponement was done ”due to unforseen circumstances”

He said, ”The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Day 2022 Celebration earlier scheduled to take place from 19-21 May 2022 at NAF Base, Kano has now been rescheduled to take place from 21- 23 May 2022 at the same venue.

”This was due to unforseen circumstances. The NAF wishes to apologise to all its invited guests for the inconveniences the new shift in date may have caused them.”

It was gathered that the graduation exercise was shifted to enable the grounds around which the event is to hold to be further reappraised and prevent any security breaches.
